Delete searches & browsing activity: Your searches and browsing activity are saved in your Web & App Activity when it's turned on and you're signed in to your Google Account. You're in control of what's saved, and you can delete it or turn the setting off whenever you like.

Your searches and browsing activity are saved in your Web & App Activity when it's turned on and you're signed in to your Google Account. You're in control of what's saved, and you can delete it or turn the setting off whenever you like.

Delete your searches and browsing activity

You can delete your past searches or other activity from your Web & App Activity page. Learn more about what's saved in your Web & App Activity.

Delete items one at a time

  1. Visit the Web & App Activity page. You may be asked to sign in to your Google Account.
  2. Check the box next to the item you want to delete. You can delete an entire day of items by checking the box next to a date.
  3. At the top of the page, touch Delete.

Delete all of your history

  1. Visit the Web & App Activity page. You may be asked to sign in to your Google Account.
  2. In the top right corner, touch MenuMore > Delete > Advanced.
  3. Touch All time > Remove > Delete.
Note: If you want to delete items from a specific date, touch the calendar at the top of the page to find the date you want. 
Tip: If you want to delete your recent searches under the search box, touch and hold the search you want to delete> OK. The search will be deleted from the Google app and your Web & App Activity.

  1. In the Web & App Activity section of "Activity controls," touch Manage Activity. You may be asked to sign in to your Google Account.
  2. Check the box next to the item you want to delete. You can delete an entire day of items by checking the box next to a date.
  3. At the top of the page, touch Delete.

Delete all of your history

  1. In the Web & App Activity section of "Actvity controls," touch Manage Activity. You may be asked to sign in to your Google Account.
  2. In the top right corner, touch MenuMore > Delete > Advanced.
  3. Touch All time > Remove > Delete.
Note: If you want to delete items from a specific date, touch the calendar at the top of the page to find the date you want. 
Any searches that you do while using the Google app are stored on your iPhone or iPad (device history), and also in your Web & App Activity.
When you’re searching in the Google app, you may see your recent searches appear as suggestions below the search box. You can delete these searches right from the search box.
  1. Open the Google app .
  2. Touch the search box that appears when you open the app.
  3. Swipe the search you want to remove to the left.
  4. Touch Delete.
Note: Any searches you've deleted from below the search box will be deleted from your iPhone or iPad device history, but a copy of the searches stays in your Web & App Activity.

  3. Touch View search history.
  4. Touch Clear All in the top right corner > Clear on-device history.
Note: Any searches you've deleted from the Google app will be deleted from your iPhone or iPad device history, but a copy of the searches stays in your Web & App Activity.
  1. Open the Google app .
  2. In the top left corner of the home screen, touch your photo.
  3. Touch Privacy > Browsing.
  4. Turn the "On-device history" off (grey). When On-device history is off, new searches you do won't be saved to your device and the pages you visit won't be saved to your Recents.
Any searches you've deleted from the Google app will be deleted from your iPhone or iPad device history, but there will still be a copy of the searches in your Web & App Activity. Follow the instructions below to remove the searches from your Web & App Activity.

Prevent future searches from being saved

  1. Visit the Activity controls page.
  2. Turn the switch to off. 
Tip: If you occasionally want to prevent your searches from being saved, you can search within an incognito window in Google Chrome while not signed in to your Google Account. If you're using a browser other than Google Chrome, check your browser's help instructions to see whether it has a similar private browsing mode.

Problems deleting my past searches

Sometimes searches you delete from your History page will still be visible for a short time on your Google Dashboard.
If searches are still showing after you’ve deleted them, try clearing your browser’s cache and cookies.

What happens to your searches and browsing activity when it's deleted

When you delete items from your Web & App Activity, they are no longer associated with your Google Account. However, Google may store activity separately to prevent spam and abuse and to improve our services.
